Transferring Homeschool Credits

Transferring Homeschool Credits

Students transferring from a homeschool environment into Excel High School or Northgate Academy may need to verify prior coursework or submit documentation to determine grade placement or transfer credits toward graduation. The process and required documentation depend on your student’s grade level at the time of enrollment.

Who Needs to Complete This Process

Grades 7–9:
Students entering grades 7–9 must complete the Homeschool Attestation Form to verify completion of the previous grade. This form takes the place of a traditional transcript and helps us schedule the appropriate courses.

Grades 10–12 (or advanced 9th-grade students):
Students entering grades 10–12, or those entering 9th grade who have completed high school-level work at home, may request to transfer homeschool credits toward graduation.

Transferring homeschool credits is optional. Families may choose to complete all required coursework through our program instead of transferring prior credits.

Required Documentation

For Grade-Level Placement (Grades 7–9)

  • Homeschool Attestation Form – required for all students entering grades 7–9.
This verifies that your student has completed their prior grade and is used for placement and scheduling.
    Complete the Homeschool Attestation Form

No transcript is required at this stage unless you are also requesting credit transfer.

For High School Credit Transfer (Typically Grades 10–12)

Submit a Homeschool Transcript that includes:

  • Course titles
  • Grade earned
  • Credit value per course

The transcript should list all high school-level work completed at home or through a non-accredited program. We will review it to determine credit eligibility.

Credit Transfer Guidelines

  • A maximum of 12 homeschool credits may be transferred.
  • Only full-year courses that align with our curriculum will be considered.
  • Semester-only courses or subjects not offered through our program are not eligible.
  • All eligible credits must be validated through testing.

Testing Process

To verify homeschool coursework, students must pass a placement test for each credit they wish to transfer.

Steps:

  1. Email the Homeschool Coordinator to request tests for eligible courses.
  2. A $50 fee per test will be added to your student’s account.
  3. Once payment is received, tests will be loaded into the online learning portal (LMS).

Testing Timeline and Deadlines

Number of Tests Time to Complete
1–6 tests 1 week
7–12 tests 2 weeks

The testing process must be completed within the first month of enrollment.

If testing is not completed on time:

  • Homeschool credits may not be transferred.
  • Standard courses will be assigned.
  • Enrollment may be dropped and refunded (minus a 3% processing fee) if testing is not pursued.

Passing Criteria

  • A score of 70% or higher is required to pass.
  • Students receive two attempts per test.
  • Passing results are recorded as “Passed Without Grade” (does not affect GPA).

After Testing

  1. Once all tests are completed, email the Homeschool Coordinator to confirm completion.
  2. Your student’s Success Coach will finalize course scheduling and assign any remaining required courses.

Alternative Option: Complete All Coursework Through Our Program

Some families prefer to start fresh and complete all coursework directly through Excel High School or Northgate Academy.

To choose this option:

  1. Complete the Curriculum Use Agreement to confirm you will not be transferring homeschool credits.
Submit the Curriculum Use Agreement (link coming soon)
  2. We’ll update your student’s file and proceed with standard course placement.

This is a great option for families who want a smooth transition into our program without testing or transferring previous homeschool credits.
